Festival Planned

With an expected attendance of around 20,000 people, the 2014 Cheltenham Jazz Festival is establishing itself as one of the best jazz festivals in the UK. This year it’s scheduled for the 30th April – 5th May 2014 (Bank Holiday weekend) and has confirmed acts including Jamie Cullum, Laura Mvula, Loose Tubes, Gregory Porter, Robert Cray and Roberta Flack to name just a few.

The great thing about Cheltenham Jazz Festival is that it brings together so many genres under the umbrella of jazz… I think it is one of the best Jazz Festivals in the world. – Jamie Cullum

The Cheltenham Jazz Festival’s ‘Jazz In The Garden’ also operates alongside ‘The Fringe‘ which allows for smaller bands and artists to showcase their works to audiences in local pubs, parks, bars, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs one week before the festival starts. Events are often free to attend though some venues will charge a small cover at the door. Whilst you may not have heard of many of the bands and artists playing they are still of a very high quality and hand-picked by festival organizers and managers of the venues (Jamie Cullum was originally playing at The Fringe before being ‘picked up’ by local talent scouts, now he is an international superstar!). Cheltenham really does come to life during this time of the year and should be enjoyed by all.

There are also many educational programmes (both free and paid) that operate throughout the festival, these are available to children, teenagers and adults and are hosted by experienced jazz musicians from around the area.

The Screening Rooms - Cheltenham, England, UK

Visit The Screening Rooms – The Posh Cinema

Ever wanted to go to the cinema and have staff wait on you with food and alcoholic drinks without the annoyances of children and teenagers talking in the back row? Well, if you have then you’re in for a treat! The Screening Rooms in Cheltenham offer just the experience. It’s a more expensive than your standard cinema but well worth it. Children aren’t allowed in after 5pm but you can take the family during the day and even take advantage of cheaper seats.

Horses Racing at Cheltenham Racecourse

Horses Racing at Cheltenham Racecourse

Cheltenham Racecourse

Go for a flutter at the Cheltenham Racecourse, one of the UK’s best racecourses. The Best Mate Stand is a good place to be to see all of the action. Probably not a brilliant place to take your parter or children but for a day/night out with your friends you cant beat it. The service from bars can be slow at times if it’s busy so bring a hip-flask to sip whilst waiting.

Prescott Speed Hill Climb

Want to try something different whilst your in Cheltenham? Then check out the Prescott Speed Hill Climb and take a driving course on the 1,031 m (long course) track up Prescott Hill. Classic and vintage car enthusiasts will also find a fine collections of vehicles here to gaze at. Suitable for the whole family for a ‘special treat’.
