Finsejazz is a small jazz festival which takes place in Finse, Norway each year at the end of January. The venue for Finsejazz is at Hotel Finse 1222 which is a decent hotel hosting 44 rooms and 128 beds. The hotel also has a sauna, restaurant, disco and Turkish steam bath to help warm up from the chilly outdoors.

History

The festival is normally organised by Bergen Jazzforum and had its first year in 1996.

Get guitarists in the world has a sound that is as instantly recognizable as Terje Rypdal. For several decades he has been a significant contributor to jazz, rock and contemporary music and enjoy great respect in all camps. For the evening he comes with Nikolai Eilertsen Hængsle from Elephant9 and the Big Bang, and drummer Paolo Vinaccia straordinario.

AXEL DÖRNER / Ole Morten VÅGAN DUO SATURDAY January 28 at 14:00

Ole Morten Vågan studied at the Jazz Conservatory in Trondheim and is regarded as one of Norway’s best and innovative bassist star within the improvised music. Ole Morten has had great success with her ​​own band Motif and has also collaborated with Maria Kannegaard , Jonas Kullhammar, Bugge Wesseltoft, Ola Kvernberg and stacks more prolific artists. Axel Dörner is a crafty trumpeter , also in the Norwegian context together with Koenigsberg. He has a background in improvisation scene in Berlin where he among other things, working with Alexander von Schlippenbach.

As a duo, Stein & Mari with their weird ihopsnirkla blues has been a continuous success, and the audience can be placed into two categories: Those who speak proudly that they have been on one of their rare concerts, and those with dark eyes that did not receive it itself . In addition, they have previously visited the us together with Ragnar Hovland , and they have recently dropped the plate on Jazzland Records.

The nearest international airport to Finsejazz is Bergen Airport (BGO).

To get to Finse you’ll have to take a train as that’s pretty much the only form of transport available at this time of year.
