Java Jazz Festival Stage Performance 2008

2008 Performance @ JJF ’08

Arguably the largest jazz festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the largest jazz festivals in the world, the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival had its first year in 2005 when almost 1,500 artists took to the stage to perform in 146 different shows – 47,500 vistors attended the first ever festival. Headlining acts from 2005 included Earth, Wind & Fire, George Duke, Incognito & James Brown.

The 2013 Java Jazz Festival attracted some 100,000. The festival is always held early March each year and attracts performers from all over the world including many from Indonesia. The event organisers Java Festival Production also plan numerous other genre based festivals at the same and different venues at various times over the year so if you’re visiting Jakarta often it might be worth checking their homepage to see what’s going on.

News posts on previous years can be found at Jazzuality.com.

Previous well known artists to perform at the Java Jazz Fest over the years include:

Kool & the Gang
Chaka Khan
Jamie Cullum
Sérgio Mendes
Dianne Reeves
Toni Braxton
George Benson
Stevie Wonder

Hotels & Accommodation

The cheapest accommodation options I could find in and around Jakarta, Indonesia during festival period (Late February/Early March) are shown below:

*** Prices will rise the closer you get to the festival dates so book early and avoid disappointment… ***

Hotels Combined

If you are on a super shoe-string budget then search HostelWorld and get a bed in a hostel for as little as $8! – (Private rooms often $15+)

For a full list of good hotels to stay in during the festival period I would highly recommend visiting Hotels.com – Jakarta, Indonesia.

Note that there is NO TENT CAMPING at the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival this year. You will however be able to sleep in a RV/Camper van if you rent one, if you drastically wanted to camp you could visit Bognor (south of Jakarta), but it’s quite a long way south – campsite around Jakarta.

Map for Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo)

Map for Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo)

This years 10th annual Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival will take place at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), Kemayoran and will look to have 16+ stages and host over 50 shows a day, in which 160+ performers will take to the stage.

The JIExpo is the largest exhibition and entertainment centre in Indonesia and is a perfect venue to host this years venue (as it has done for many years in the past). Further information on the venues capacity.

There are MANY different food stands at the Expo catering to a wide selection of different cuisines including vegan and vegetarian.

The ticket prices for Java Jazz Festival vary from USD$17 (Rp 192,500) for a day ticket, the same price for all 3 days. Then there is an option to buy a full weekend ticket for USD$40.00 (Rp 440,000). You can order online and find out more information on the festivals ticket page.

Flights & Transportation

The nearest international airport to the festival is the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (SHIA) (CGK) and is located roughly 29 km away from the Jakarta International Expo.

Transportation options to and from the airport can be found at the airport Wikipedia page.

Over 40 airlines operate from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. To get the best flight deals I would use SkyScanner as they take 0% commission and are rarely beaten on price. Feel free to do a quick check on prices using their official flight checker below (note: Results will open in a new browser window so you won’t leave this page 😎 ):

Additional transport info and a map of this festivals location can be found in the tabbed ‘Map & Transport Hubs‘ section below.

We currently have not been able to interview anybody at the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival, if you work for the festival and would like to answer a few questions for this section of your listing, please contact me so that we can get something arranged, thank you.
