The 2014 Payne Pest Management San Diego Jazz Festival will this year run for 3 days over the memorial day weekend at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. Expected audience of 11,500 and around 25 acts in total, the San Diego Jazz Fest is a great little festival hosted on the panoramic seaside setting of the La Costa venue.
Confirmed acts for this year include Jill Scott, Jonathan Butler, Norman Brown and the Jazz in Pink quintet.
Note that this festival should not be confused with the other San Diego Jazz Festival which shares the same name.

The venue for this years 2014 San Diego Jazz Festival venue will be the La Costa Resort and Spa.
Originally founded in 1965, the Omni La Costs Resort & Spa was the first U.S. resort to offer the full spa experience. It’s developed over the years and now hosts many championship golf tournaments and tennis competitions as well as providing ample room for staging and seating for events like the San Diego Jazz Fest.
The resort has teamed up with the San Diego Jazz Festival and offers a number of Resort Packages allowing jazz fans to experience the festival to the max.

** There are certain items that you are not allowed to bring into the festival grounds (food/beverages, tents, flags, DSLR camera, chairs, blankets etc. Make sure you check the festival FAQ before coming.)
Food is provided at the La Costa Resort (see their ‘Dining‘ page). NO food is allowed to be brought onto the resort grounds during the festival period. Bags will be checked by security upon entering.
My personal favorite place to eat and grab a beer around the festival period is Pizza Port, Carlsbad. It’s been open since 1987 and has great pizza and beer, suitable for all.
If you’re looking to grab a quick bite to eat in and around the festival period but want to go outside of the venue grounds then I would recommend checking out reviews and prices of Carlsbad Restaurants here on Urban Spoon.
The closest international airport to Omni La Costa Resort & Spa (festival venue) is San Diego International Airport (SAN).
Distance from San Diego International Airport to La Costa Resort is 50km (31 miles), transport time around 35 minutes in a car or taxi.
Currently 23 airlines operate from San Diego Airport, including:
To get the best flight deals I would use SkyScanner‘s official search widget below.
The cheapest hotel and accommodation options I could find in and around Carlsbad during the San Diego Jazz Fest (late June – Early July) are shown below (Click HERE for a complete list).
*** Hotel prices rise exponentially as you get closer to the festival dates. Book early to avoid disappointment. ***
If you are on a super shoe-string budget then search HostelWorld and get a bed in San Diego for as little as $21.00 – (Private rooms $23.00+)

I would recommend checking Carlsbad hotel reviews on TripAdvisor prior to placing any booking. Alternatively, why don’t you try something different and rent someones apartment during the festival period at AirBnB?! Click here for a free £15 credit towards your first booking!
Note that there is NO TENT CAMPING at the San Diego Jazz Festival this year. However, if you really did want to camp, either in a tent or your RV/Motorhome, then you can check out the nearby facilities at South Carlsbad State Beach Campgrounds it seems to be a popular campsite according to the numerous 5-star reviews at yelp.com.
We currently have not been able to interview anybody at the San Diego Jazz Festival, if you work for the festival and would like to answer a few questions for this section of your listing, please contact me so that we can get something arranged, thank you.

If this is your first time to the San Diego Jazz Festival then you might want to take a few days out around the festival period and experience the other highlights that California has to offer. I’ve put together a personalized list of the best things to do in San Diego Enjoy!
Visit the USS Midway Museum
Take a trip to downtown San Diego and check out the USS Midway Museum at Navy Pier. This real naval aircraft served in the US Navy for 47 years and have been converted into a museum. It has jets, and other airplanes on the flight decks that you can walk on/sit in and a brilliant free audio tour that takes you around most of the ship. You’ll probably need at least 3 hours to see all the exhibits or maybe a day if you’re a VET! Great for the whole family.
Hours: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Torrey Pines State Reserve
The Torrey Pines State Reserve offers a brilliant retreat from the city. Great for walking, hiking, watching wildlife etc. It remains to be one of the wildest landscapes on the Southern California Coast. Located between LaJolla and Del Mar. It’s probably most famous fo r its world class golf course, Torrey Pines. Most trails lead down to the beach and if you’re lucky you might be able to see dolphins swimming in the sea!
